Brady Smith Concludes 2008 Racing Season Last Weekend in Georgia and South Carolina
2008-11-13(SOLON SPRINGS, WISCONSIN) Brady Smith and his AMSOIL #2 team wrapped up their version of the 2008 racing season last weekend in the southern states of Georgia and South Carolina. Following a rain-out at the Boyd's (GA) Speedway on Friday, November 7, the Brady Smith Racing team trekked to the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia on Saturday evening. In his first-ever visit to the Peachtree State speedplant, Brady qualified twenty-third fastest and later ran third in his heat race to advance into the $5,000 to win main event. During the course of the 40-lap ' Turkey Rumble,' Brady put on a show at the lightning quick oval, as he passed ten cars en route to a fifth place performance behind winner Jimmy Owens, Dale McDowell, Tommy Kerr, and Ray Cook.
The team's season finale then took place on Sunday, November 9 at the historic Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina. Brady timed in fourteenth quickest in O'Reilly Southern Allstars Series (OSAS) qualifying and transferred into the 'Blue/Gray100' via his fourth place heat race effort. After rolling off from the outside of the seventh row in the $10,000 to win feature event, Brady wound up retiring early and settling for a twenty-third place finish. "We had a really good car for our first visit to North Georgia," stated Smith earlier in the week." Our qualifying effort left a little to be desired, but we ran well in the heat race and in the feature. I would have liked to have started further towards the front, but given our qualifying time, a top five finish was an excellent night for us. Then at Cherokee on Sunday, it was a typical daytime race. We wound up getting a flat tire, but the track was one-grooved and very hard to pass on unfortunately. It was a good season for our AMSOIL team and we will work hard this off-season to get ready for Brunswick in late January!"
The Brady Smith Racing team entered fifty-two Dirt Late Model events during the course of their 2008 campaign. Brady racked up five victories in '08, while amassing thirteen Top Fives and twenty-five Top Tens. In the seven races that he entered that were taped by the SPEED Channel cameras, Brady notched a single Top Five and three Top Ten efforts. In addition, the driver known as the "Prodigy" accumulated fourteen heat race triumphs and seven B-Main wins. You can view a list of Brady's 2008 accomplishments listed below:
